Does Vietnam allow citizens to have dual nationality?
The Minister of Justice said that allowing dual citizenship does not mean giving up Vietnam's principle of one nationality, but only amending the principle to be more flexible.

The Nationality Law also allows people whose spouses, biological parents, and biological children are Vietnamese citizens to gain Vietnamese citizenship. The above policy also applies to cases of special meritorious contributions to the cause of building and protecting the homeland, or being beneficial to the Vietnamese state.
In case they do not belong to the above categories, foreign citizens and stateless people permanently residing in Vietnam who want to become Vietnamese citizens must meet the following conditions: Comply with the Constitution and laws; know Vietnamese to be able to integrate into the community; Permanent residence for 5 years or more by the time of applying for citizenship, and capable of ensuring life in Vietnam...
The law also stipulates that a person with Vietnamese nationality must have a Vietnamese name. People who have lost their nationality and now want to return must apply and fall into one of the following categories: apply for repatriation to Vietnam; have a spouse, biological father, biological mother or biological child who is a Vietnamese citizen; He has made special contributions to the cause of building and protecting the fatherland.
