What is a CITES permit?
The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora has the English name Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, or CITES for short.
A CITES permit is a document that allows the export, import, re-export, and introduction from the sea of endangered wild animal and plant species in the CITES Appendices and plant species. endangered, precious, and rare forest and forest animals.
CITES permits are issued by the Vietnam CITES Management Authority for the following activities:
- Legally export, import, re-export, re-import, and introduce from the sea specimens of endangered wild fauna and flora species in CITES Appendices;
- Exporting specimens of endangered, precious and rare species of forest plants and animals according to the provisions of Decree No. 06/2019/ND-CP and not on the list of species in the CITES Appendix.
CITES Appendix in Decree 06 includes:
- Appendix I: wild animals and plants threatened with extinction, prohibited from export, import, re-export, introduction from the sea and transit of specimens exploited from nature for commercial purposes;
- Appendix II: wild animal and plant species that are not currently threatened with extinction but may become extinct if the export, import, re-export, introduction from the sea and transit of specimens of these species Uncontrolled commercial exploitation from nature;
- Appendix III: wild animals and plants for which a CITES member country requires other member countries to cooperate to control export, import, and re-export for commercial purposes.
The CITES permit is filled with information, affixed with a CITES stamp or bar code, signed and stamped by the Vietnam CITES Management Authority. The maximum validity period of the license is 6 months.
The CITES permit is only issued in one copy and always accompanies the CITES shipment/specimen.
