Based on Clause 1 Article 36 Circular No. 12/2017/TT-BGTVT regulations on people have driving license beyond the expiration date as follows:

Article 36. Re-issuance of driving license

1. Drivers whose driving licenses have expired shall

From 03 months to less than 1 year since the date of expiration, take the theory tests for re-issuance of driving license;

b) From 1 year and over since the date of expiration, participate in both theory and practical tests for re-issuance of driving license.

Applications for participation in the test are prescribed in Clause 3 Article 19 hereof.

Accordingly, people whose driving licenses have been expired for 3 months to less than 1 year from the expiration date must retake the theory test to re-issue their driving licenses.

In case the driver's license has been expired for 01 year or more, from the expiration date, both theory and practice must be re-tested to re-issue the driver's license.
