What documents are needed to travel abroad? Can I take my grandchild on a trip abroad?
1. At what age can children travel abroad?
According to Vietnamese state law, there are no regulations on how old a child must be to be granted a passport, so in principle, newborn children (with birth certificates) all have the right to be issued a passport.
Children from a few months to a few years old can travel abroad if they qualify and their parents can take good care of their children.
So you can absolutely take your child away if all the conditions prescribed by law are met.
2. Conditions for children to go abroad.
In your case, your grandchild is 10 years old this year, so when traveling, you need the following conditions:
- For children under 1 year old, they can use their birth certificate to fly.
- For children aged 1 year or older, it is mandatory that the child must use an original birth certificate or an excerpt of a birth certificate if they want to book a plane ticket and fly with family members.
- For children under 12 years old traveling with relatives other than their parents, the child is required to have a letter of authorization from the parent for the relative/guardian to fly with the child.
