1. Where to get a lost driver's license?

According to Article 36 of the Circular No. 12/2017/TT-BGTVT, the person whose driving license has been lost must carry out procedures to re-issue a driving license at the Vietnam Road Administration or the Department of Transport.

2. What documents do I need to prepare to get a lost driver's license?

Pursuant to the provisions of Article 36 of Circular No. 12/2017/TT-BGTVT, the application for re-issuance of a lost driving license includes:

a) Written request for renewal or re-issuance of driving license according to form prescribed in Appendix 19 enclosed herewith;

b) Original application in accordance with driving license (if any);

c) Health certificate issued by competent medical facilities as prescribed except for re-issuance of A1, A2, A3 class driving license with permanent validity;

d) The copy of people’s identity card, citizen’s identity card or unexpired passport for Vietnamese citizens or unexpired passport for foreigners and overseas Vietnamese.

Note: In case the driver's license is lost beyond the expiry date of 03 months or more, the name is in the records of the testing management agency, and is not in the case of being confiscated and handled by competent authorities. If so, you must take the test again. In there:

- Overdue from 03 months to less than 01 year, must retake the theory test;

- If the expiration date is 1 year or more, both theory and practice must be re-tested.

3. How long does it take to reissue a lost driver's license?

In case the driving license is still valid or expired less than 03 months

After 02 months from the date of submitting complete documents, taking photos and paying fees according to regulations, if it is not discovered that the driver's license is being confiscated and handled by competent authorities; If your name is on the records of the testing management agency, your driving license will be re-issued (according to point d, clause 2, Article 36 of Circular No. 12/2017/TT-BGTVT).

In case the driving license is expired by 03 months or more

Clause 6, Article 36 of Circular No. 12/2017/TT-BGTVT stipulates:

“The deadline for reissuing the driving license is similar to that for issuing a new one."

Accordingly, the time to issue a driving license is no more than 10 working days from the end of the test.
